Blue and Gold Summer Camps: Sports camp programs for boys and girls entering grades 5-9 in the fall will be offered during the summer of 2018 at Housatonic Valley Regional High School, 246 Warren Turnpike Road, Falls Village; programs to be announced.


Camp Kent – Park and Rec offers an eight-week summer day camp program open to youngsters who will be entering grades 1-8 in the fall. The program will run June 25 through August 17 and meets Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Emery Park, 42 Segar Mountain Road, at a cost of $105/week for Kent residents and $135/week for non-residents with a $5 discount for siblings who attend in the same week. The camp day features sports and games, arts and crafts, swimming, Club Getaway Mondays, field trips, Thursday lunch in the park with the Kent Memorial Library and weekly Friday BBQ lunches. Camp registration opens the third Wednesday in May (May 16, 2018) from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Park and Recreation office, town hall. Registration is accepted on a first come, first serve basis with first preference is given to Kent families, next to non-resident families who work in Kent and then non-residents as space permits. Registration policy: $30 of the registration fee is non-refundable for cancellations that can not be filled by other campers. Challenger Soccer Camp - meets in late June (2018 dates to be announced) for boys and girls ages 3 to 14 at Veterans Field, 120 Sharon Station Road, Sharon. Programs include mini soccer and half and full-day. Open to Region One youngsters. Camp flyer will be available in the Kent Park and Recreation office, Town Hall, or register at challengersports.com

Colonial Summer Baseball – Kent Park and Recreation offers summer Colonial Baseball for Kent boys ages 13-16 (age of May 1). Cornwall, Falls Village, Kent, Salisbury and Sharon will partner to form a team. The season runs mid-June through July. Registration fee is $50. Contact Lesly Ferris, 860-927-1003 if interested in playing.

Henna Workshop with Elyse Sadtler - July 19, 10 a.m.-noon, Kent Town Hall, second floor meeting room. Open to ages 10 and up. Learn what henna is, how to draw designs and more.  Lunch in the Park – Kent Park and Recreation and the Kent Memorial Library will host weekly story hour during the summer at noon at Emery Park, 42 Segar Mountain Road. The program will meet Thursdays, June 28 through August 16, 2018. Families are invited to join the library and Park and Rec for children’s stories. Bring a chair or blanket and a picnic lunch. A park pass is not required.

Learn To Swim Program
Kent Park and Recreation will offer Learn-to-Swim program in 2018; dates to be announced. Registration will be accepted on a first come, first served basis, with the lifeguards at Emery Park or in the Park and Recreation office, Kent Town Hall.

A Registration Form and park pass are required to register.

Level 1 – Introduction to Water Skills – age 5 and up; student must be able to enter the water on own and listen to the instructor. Water adjustment and basic beginning skills. Meets at 11:15 p.m.

Level 2 – Fundamental Aquatic Skills – gives student success with fundamental skills. Meets at 11:45 p.m.

Level 3 – Stroke Development – builds on the skills in Level 2 by providing additional guided practice. Meets at 2:15 p.m.

Level 4 – Stroke Improvement – students will develop confidence in the strokes learned and improve other aquatic skills. Meets at 2:15 p.m.

*Please note that the prerequisite for each level is successful demonstration of the skills taught in the preceding level.

Modeling & Fashion Camp - New program for 2018, open to Region One youth, ages 4 to 12. Camp will run July 9-13, 9 a.m. to noon at Kent Town Hall, 41 Kent Green Boulevard. Cost is $120. Sharon Baseball Camp - Sharon Rec. Department will host Sharon Baseball Camp  for Region One youth, ages 7-14, at Sharon Valley Fields. The 2018 program dates will be June 22-23. Ages 7-10 will meet from 9 a.m. to noon and focus on basic fundamentals and play modified games. Ages 11-14 will meet from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will participate in drills and activities until noon and will play a game in the afternoon.  To request a registration form or for more information, contact Matt Mette, 860-364-1400, or email .

Slamma-Jamma Basketball Camp - Camp, open to younsters entering grades 3 through 9, will run July 23-27, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Kent Center School gym, 9 Judd Avenue, Kent. Cost is $165. New this year: register and pay by credit card online. Visit slamma-jamma.net


Summer Little League – open to Kent youngsters age 8 to 11 (as of Aug. 1). The program, which will be a joint team with Cornwall and Sharon, will run July through mid-August with weeknight games with regional towns. Registration fee is $45 and includes a team hat and T-shirt.

 

Summer with Shakespeare! Kent Park and Recreation will host some summer fun, fantasy and foolishness as participants perform Shakespeare's play "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Youngsters, ages 8-18, will rehearse by playing theater games, creating masks, singing and taking part in a performance of the play. Camp will run July 14-21, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Congregational Church Parish House, Kent. The cost is $225 with $5 discount for siblings.
